The Shield of Kinnis is the sheild which was carried by the epic hero Kinnis. Kinnis either perished or ascended after defeating the necromancer Ugar. The Shield then became the symbol of the Kings of Kinergh. It has been lost for about 400 years, having gone missing in battle when the king was killed fighting orcs.
The Shield of Kinnis is a Level 13 Sun Shield (heavy shield) with the following properties and powers.
Enhancement: Attack rolls and damage rolls
Critical: +3d12 radiant damage.
Property: You gain +3 resistance to all necrotic damage.
Property: You gain +3 to all saving throws vs effects created by the undead.
Property: This shield can be used as a one-handed melee weapon with +3 proficiency, 1d6 damage, heavy blade, off-hand. It grants a +3 enhancement bonus to attack rolls and damage rolls when used as a melee weapon, and it deals 3d12 extra radiant damage on a critical hit.
Power (At-Will, Radiant): Minor Action. The shield sheds bright light within 10 squares, and melee attacks made with the shield deal radiant damage instead of other damage types. You can end this effect as a minor action. |
The shield communicates its feelings to its owner via empathy. When undead are present it will radiate a feeling of loathing and a desire to destroy them. Likewise if it senses an opportunity to advance its goals it will radiate a desire to do so. If it is displeased with its owner it will radiate a sense of displeasure, etc. The shield is fairly intelligent and can often determine if someone is helping or thwarting its goals, in which case it will make its likes or dislikes known to its owner.

The shield has done all it can in the hands of this wielder. It will now return to the treasure horde of the Kings of Kinergh or some other safe place until it is needed again. When the character next gains a level the shield vanishes. If the Shield is at least satisfied it leaves behind a normal Level 13 Sun Shield (heavy shield) for the wielder. If the shield is pleased it grants the wielder the feat Shield Proficiency (heavy shield) as a boon. This boon will last until the wielder gains another feat slot. Copyright © 2022 Tod G. Harter.
