Green Slime and Fire Beetles (Hooray!)

After sleeping off the battle with the Owlbear the party heads deeper into the cave. Soon they come to a room with a stream running across it and a dam. The dam obviously has a floodgate which could be closed and the party soon learns that the area behind the dam is coated in green slime when Alecsa climbs the dam and closes the floodgate. Almost immediately about 10 giant beetles that were grazing on green slime start swimming for the dam!

The beetles prove to be Fire Beetles, 8 of which make it to the dam and start attacking Alecsa in ones and twos. She quickly retreats to the base of the dam where the rest of the party forms up to battle the beetles. After a few rounds of heavy fighting and some significant singing around the edges from fire beetle blasts the party dispatches all of the beetles.

After the beetle's demise the characters watch the dam fill. This handily washes away the green slime and they reopen the floodgate, causing the last of the slime to be washed downstream (did anyone ever wonder where it might have ended up?).

Beyond the dam room the passage continues west until it enters a very large cavern with a hole in the roof leading to the outdoors about 100' overhead. Soon after the party enters the cavern they become aware of the fact that this cavern is a stirge lair as the evil little beasts begin to dive bomb the characters.

A stiff fight ensures in which Cinoi takes damage for (possibly) the first time (or at least the first time he's taken anything beyond a scratch). Eventually the stirges are vanquished and the party finds a blue gem and a +1 Duelist's Dagger, which Alecsa takes.
