Other Areas and Miscellaneous Information
Areas of Erithnoi outside the borders of the ancient Cardolan Empire are little known. However some basic information exists. Beyond Erithnoi itself lie many other strange lands and seas. Most of them are unknown or only the most meager information is known about them.
The Far North
The Cardolan Empire once extended from the shores of the Ta-Al-Erg on the south for at least 250 to 300 miles north and extended roughly 900 miles east west. The continent of Erithnoi however is known to extend quite a bit further to the north. It is rumored that great ranges of ice covered mountains lie some 500 miles to the north of civilized lands. The area south of these mountains and north of civilization is a cold land covered mostly in evergreen forests. It is said to be populated by bands of humanoids, monsters, and possibly other races. Little is known for certain of this land and only a very few adventurers have penetrated any distance into it and come back to tell the tale. What might lie beyond the icy mountains is entirely unknown.
The Sea of Loth
The eastern edge of Erithnoi borders on the Sea of Loth. At the northern edge of this sea a large penninsula comes down from the north and forms the Bay of Kazan. Beyond the Penninsula of Kazan lie the endless and unknown Untread Waters.
The Ta-Al-Erg
This is the great inland sea which lies to the south of Erithnoi. At its northwestern corner is Gilduin. The sea itself is known to extend roughly 600 miles south. The western end of the sea is formed by two large penninsulas. Lanth is the southern one and the northern is Kanth, which is considered part of Erithnoi although it was never part of the Cardolan Empire. The sea itself contains many large islands and trading ships ply its waters from ports both in Erithnoi and the Southern Lands. A narrow straight, the Straights of the Wind lie between Lanth and Kanth, through which ships can sail eastward into the Blue Sea. In the midst of the straights is an ancient island fortress, Arthos Agilios, which is said to have been built by the Cardolans.
The Southern Lands
To the south of the Ta-Al-Erg is an entire southern continent. It is known to the inhabitants of Erithnoi as simply the Southern Lands. These lands are many and diverse and not too well known to Erithnians. Here lie fabulous kingdoms such as Mnar. It is said that a great range of mountains lies south of these lands and beyond them is the endless Great Desert.
The Sea of Amak
North of Khem is a large landlocked sea known as the Sea of Amak. The eastern shore of this sea is considered to form the westernmost boundary of Erithnoi. The further shores of the Sea of Amak are only poorly known and the lands in that area are known only to be cold dry steppes. The southern shore of the Sea of Amak is the land of Khem.
The Western Lands
The western shoreline of the Ta-Al-Erg forms another area. From the Bay of Khem the shore of the Ta-Al-Erg goes south for many hundreds of miles. A great line of mountains, the High Peaks lies 2-3 hundred miles west of the shoreline and runs from the southwest corner of Gilduin far into the Southern Lands. Along this western shore are several nations. The best known and most northerly one is the Principality of Ek, which borders on Gilduin. South of this is a land known as Eligos.
